How Covent Garden is becoming London's beauty capital

Covent Garden has its sights set on becoming London’s beauty capital, and with four luxury fragrance houses preparing to open or expand in the neighbourhood this year, it's headed that way. Byredo, Matiere Premiere, Initio Parfums Privés and Parfums de Marly are all committing to new stores.

Byredo is set to open a 1,100 sq ft boutique inside the Market Building, joining its existing location in Seven Dials. The new space will showcase its high-end fragrance alongside make-up, home, leather goods and accessories.

Parisian brand Matiere Premiere has chosen Covent Garden for its first UK flagship, opening at 31 King Street. Co-Founder and General Manager, Cédric Meiffret, said: "Covent Garden has long been a location that embraces and celebrates innovation, creativity, and craftsmanship. There is no other place more suited to host our first UK flagship. This location will be an opportunity for clients to experience the direct link between the most beautiful natural raw materials and Matiere Premiere fragrances, surrounded by the top labels within the luxury beauty industry."
Initio Parfums Privés will make its UK debut by moving into Parfums de Marly’s former space in the Market Building. Meanwhile, Parfums de Marly itself is upsizing to a new 1,000 sq ft boutique at 31 James Street, placing it alongside Apple, Glossier and Charlotte Tilbury.

Julien Sausset, CEO of Parfums de Marly and Initio Parfums Privés, commented: "Our move to James Street echoes the sheer growth we’ve experienced at Covent Garden, and the loyalty we have built with landlord Shaftesbury Capital and the numerous visitors over the years.

"Our new space at James Street will allow us to elevate our customer experience even further and offer more services and ranges that reflect our heritage, opulence, and artistry. We are committed to being part of Covent Garden’s impressive luxury beauty line-up and look forward to seeing this grow even further."
Shaftesbury Capital sees the influx of fragrance names as proof of Covent Garden’s unique pull in the luxury beauty sector. William Oliver, Director of Retail and Restaurant Leasing, said: "Four exciting new fragrance brands have committed to Covent Garden, which speaks volumes about our role as the leading destination for luxury beauty in the UK, already home to a host of world-class fragrance houses and an epicentre where brands can launch, innovate, and thrive.

"We deliver unparalleled quality, and this is shown time and time again by prominent names in the industry continually choosing Covent Garden, as we continue to lead the way and curate a world-class beauty environment."

This year alone, Covent Garden has welcomed a wave of prestige beauty activations. Earlier this month, Aveda launched its first immersive experience in London to mark the debut of its new Miraculous Oil. Last month, Never Fully Dressed popped up in Covent Garden to celebrate the launch of its fragrances. This followed Sculpted by Aimee's pop-up in the area in June.
According to Shaftesbury Capital, the property group behind much of Covent Garden’s retail leasing strategy, beauty is now one of the district’s most powerful traffic drivers. Glossier’s flagship location on Floral Street, for example, has become a consistent crowd-puller, helping to cement the area’s status as a launchpad for digitally savvy and community-driven brands.

The four openings will sit alongside an already heavyweight line-up of niche fragrance, including Creed, Diptyque, Jo Malone London, Le Labo, Miller Harris and Penhaligon’s, plus luxury beauty players such as Chanel, Tom Ford, Glossier, Guerlain and Charlotte Tilbury.
The news also builds momentum ahead of Covent Garden’s first Big Beauty event, a 10-day celebration of beauty and wellness running from 4-14 September, which will see the Piazza and surrounding streets transformed into a multi-sensory playground.

7 Tips For Brightening Dull Skin, According To Dermatologists

8/8/2025

Picture
Everyone's skin goes through different phases, and if you've ever gone through a period of time when you felt like your complexion was lacking that glowing-skin vibe, you're not alone. Dull skin is one of the most common complexion complaints, and it can be caused by many things, from dry patches to general aging. Sure, feeling like your outer layer doesn't have that extra oomph can affect your confidence, but the good news is that the majority of expert-backed approaches for achieving brightness are easy to incorporate into your skincare routine. But know this: There's no such thing as cutting corners when it comes to reaching your skincare goals, which is why staying consistent with a well-rounded routine makes all the difference.

What is dull skin?
There are a few characteristics that indicate when your skin has gone dull. This includes a lack of radiance and shine as well as appearing dry or matte. Board-certified dermatologist Robyn Gmyrek, MD, notes that it can often appear patchy, ashy, or uneven in tone with dark spots.

Some common causes of dull skin are:
  • Dryness
  • Aging
  • Smoking
  • Sun damage and pollution
  • Severe health issues or illnesses
If you're on a mission to get your glow back, read on for seven dermatologist-approved tips for treating dull skin.

1. Exfoliate regularly
If you aren't already exfoliating, consider this your sign to start making it a regular part of your skincare routine. Sloughing away dead cells regularly reveals healthier, more radiant skin. It also removes unwanted pigmentation, aids in cell turnover, and stimulates collagen says Dr. Gmyrek.

You can use a physical exfoliator like cleansers with micro-beads, scrubs, or washcloths. But if your skin is easily irritated, you may want to opt for a chemical exfoliator, which may contain retinoic acids, alpha-hydroxy acids, or salicylic acid to "break down the bonds between surface skin cells and gently dissolve them," says Dr. Gmyrek. Still, it's important to not overdo it with any kind of exfoliator, as it can cause more irritation, inflammation, and sensitivities, adds Divya Sachdev, MD, a double board-certified dermatologist.

2. Look for the right moisturizer.
Word of advice: never skip your moisturizer. Another word? Make sure you're using a moisturizer with ingredients that cater to your needs and preferences.
"The purpose of a moisturizer is to improve skin hydration by keeping moisture in the skin and minimizing water loss into the environment, called transepidermal water loss (TEWL)," Dr. Gmyrek explains. Keeping your skin hydrated will keep it plump and more radiant. If you're unsure what to look for, try checking some labels for ultra-moisturizing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, ceramides, glycerine, and dimethicone.

3. Use sunscreen.
While you may think a good tan is bound to leave you looking sun-kissed and glowy, the damage from harmful UV rays can result in dull, leathery, wrinkly skin. "UVA and UVB rays can cause hyperpigmentation and DNA damage, resulting in a saggy appearance, irregular texture, and solar elastosis—a yellow tone caused by as accumulation of damaged elastin from chronic sun exposure," says Dr. Gmyrek.

To prevent the side effects of sun damage, you should wear an SPF of 30 or higher on a daily basis, per The American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Sachdev suggests using a mineral sunscreen, which is less likely to cause negative reactions and is more effective at blocking UVA and UVB rays. You can also protect your skin using hats or sunglasses.

4. Stay consistent with retinol.
Consider retinol the MVP of your skincare regimen. Not only does it stimulate the production of collagen and elastin to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, it also promotes a faster cell turnover rate to reveal brighter skin. Through this process, retinol decreases the production of excess pigmentation (aka less discoloration).

If you have yet to try retinol, Dr. Gmyrek recommends starting slowly, using it two to three times a week for one to two weeks before increasing your usage. If your skin can't handle the higher frequency, just stick to what's comfortable. "Consistency is more important than being able to use the product every single night," says Dr. Gmyrek.
This content is imported from poll. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

5. Mask up.
Whether you want to give your skin a boost of hydration or exfoliate to eliminate dullness, masks are a great fix that can be implemented for long-term results. Dr. Sachdev notes that hydrating masks are especially gentle and can be used multiple times a week. On the flip side, exfoliating masks should be used more cautiously to prevent irritation. "If you want to use something [with] glycolic or salicylic acid, then stay off retinoid that day or a few days before," says Dr. Sachdev.
If you're up for a splurge, consider trying an LED red light mask. Dr. Gmyrek is a big fan of masks with blue, red, and infrared lights since they all serve slightly different purposes; blue light improves acne, red light stimulates collagen production to reduce conditions like inflammation, and infrared light boosts blood circulation by bringing oxygen and nutrients to the cells.

6. Add in vitamin C.
Vitamin C is an antioxidant that protects against free radicals, environmental damage, and sun damage. It also protects against hyperpigmentation. "When we have too much pigment, our skin looks, so [vitamin C] helps brighten the skin and promotes collagen," says Dr. Sachdev. You can use it in serum form since the molecules will be small enough to deeply penetrate the skin or you can take capsules.

7. Make lifestyle changes.
It goes without saying that smoking is harmful to your lungs. That said, it's also one of the many culprits for dry skin because it creates "free radicals, which are unstable molecules that cause damage to the cells in your skin, including collagen and elastic tissue," says Dr. Gmyrek. "They also stimulate pigment production, causing your complexion to look discolored and irregular."
Additionally, maintaining a nutritious and well-rounded diet can give you a glow from the inside out. "Skin is the largest organ of the body, and it's going to look dull no matter how many [products] or procedures you try," says Dr. Sachdev. "So you have to have the internal component as well."

Unexpected Hygiene Tips That Will Help You Keep Your Skin Clear

5/24/2025

Comments

Picture
Clear, radiant skin is something all of us want. However, sometimes it’s not as easy as simply cleansing and moisturizing our skin. The state of our skin is also impacted by the little habits, such as our hygiene routine. Sometimes, the simplest tweaks to your routine can make a world of difference. That’s why we decided to share with you some unexpected hygiene tips that can help you achieve and maintain clear, glowing skin.

CHANGE YOUR PILLOWCASE
This might be an obvious one, however, that doesn’t make it any less important — regularly change your pillowcases! It’s after all the one surface that your skin and hair are in contact with for seven to eight hours every day. Over time, it accumulates oil, sweat, and even traces of skincare and hair care products. When you rest your face on this breeding ground of bacteria night after night, it can lead to breakouts and skin irritation. Make it a habit to change your pillowcase regularly, ideally once a week. Another thing that you can do is to switch to a satin pillow case. This material is not only more gentle on your skin but also less likely to trap bacteria.

CLEAN YOUR PHONE SCREEN
Your smartphone is a constant companion, but it’s also a magnet for germs and bacteria. When you hold your phone against your cheek during calls, you’re transferring these impurities directly to your skin, which can result in clogged pores and acne. Regularly clean your phone screen with a microfiber cloth and a gentle, alcohol-free cleaning solution. Additionally, consider using headphones or a hands-free device to reduce contact between your phone and your skin. Wiping your phone down daily can make a significant difference in your skin’s health.

TOWEL TRANSFORMATION
Don’t underestimate the impact that your towel has on the condition of your skin. The rough texture of standard bath towels can be abrasive to your skin, causing micro-tears and irritation. This can be especially problematic for those with sensitive or acne-prone skin. Upgrade to soft, microfiber towels for your face. They are gentler and less likely to cause friction. Pat your skin dry instead of rubbing, as this minimizes the risk of irritation. Remember, your skin is most vulnerable after cleansing, so be extra gentle during this step of your routine.

ACNE AND HAIR PRODUCTS
Haircare products like conditioner and hair masks can sometimes contain ingredients that are less than friendly to your skin. When these products rinse off, they can leave residue on your skin, potentially leading to breakouts along your back and shoulders, but also hairline and forehead. To prevent this, make sure to wash your face and body after you’ve rinsed out your haircare products. This step will help you get rid of any residual ingredients, and lower the risk of hair care-related breakouts. It’s a simple adjustment to your routine that can have a significant impact on your skin’s condition.

HAND HYGIENE
The skin on your hands and your face is intimately connected. So if you neglect proper hand hygiene, you’re going to transfer germs and bacteria to your face. That’s why washing your hands frequently is crucial, especially before touching your face or applying skincare products. Use a gentle, fragrance-free hand soap to avoid irritating your skin. Remember to wash your hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds. Don’t forget to also clean between your fingers and under your nails. It’s a simple habit that can prevent unwanted breakouts and skin irritations. But also more important things, such as infections.

A luxury guide to lipstick – by one of the world's most renowned make-up artists, Peter Philips

Having created an haute couture concept for the lips with Dior Rouge Premier, Peter Philips reveals his tricks for wearing lipstick like an A-lister

Picture
A pioneer in the field of high-fashion beauty, Peter Philips – the creative and image director for Dior Makeup – knows everything about executing a luxury lipstick look. His vision and technique has been behind countless catwalk beauty looks, magazine editorials and campaigns and, now, the exquisite new Dior Rouge Premier lipsticks crafted with true haute couture spirit.

"It's a new approach to beauty and lipstick," he tells me in Paris, where I'm able to experience the collectible refillable lipstick collection, created in partnership with the fifth-generation porcelain house Bernardaud. The precious cases (weighty treasures which remain cold to the touch) are handcrafted in ceramic – a material that portrays fragility but is extremely strong – and adorned with the toile de Jouy print (a timeless signature motif of Christian Dior) in emblematic Gris Dior. Beyond collectible, they're intended to be handed down through generations – as is common with a cherished handbag or watch, but less so with a beauty accessory, despite the emotional connections held for a child and memories of their mother's make-up.

The craftsmanship extends to the unique formula, naturally, which "injects a huge amount of pigment, guaranteeing a smooth payoff in one swipe, as well as a long-lasting effect of up to eight hours," Philips explains. It's as caring as it is indulgent, with "a selection of the best ingredients," including red hibiscus extract, jojoba oil, shea butter and... 24-carat gold. "It’s a very discreet decadence," Philips explains of the latter, added not for the look but for an ultra-luxurious quality. "It was a kind of tour de force to formulate because gold melts at a different temperature to other ingredients," he reveals of the technical challenge. "But that's what haute couture is all about; you bend yourself backwards to get that little extra beading into a creation, which might not always be noticeable, but it makes a difference to how the wearer feels, and the whole experience."

Take a chance on Chanel’s new fragrance

Chance Eau Splendide is a sparkling, fruity-floral scent for the bold woman who seizes every day

Picture
For Chanel, chance is never a matter of coincidence. In fact, the brand’s founder, Gabrielle Chanel, said that chance was her soul. If you believe in seizing every chance you’re given and creating your own destiny, the latest interpretation of Chanel’s Chance fragrance is just for you.
Picture
Created in 2003, there have been four interpretations of Chance and this latest incarnation, Chance Eau Splendide, is a winning olfactory encounter, just like its predecessors.
Picture
Olivier Polge, Chanel’s in-house perfumer creator, says that each Chance fragrance is unique, but they all express the same state of mind.

“There is no common composition, but something along the lines of a feeling and an emotion that each fragrance expresses – something very lively and very direct,” he adds.
Olivier reveals that the creation of Chance Eau Splendide started with a playful and carefree state of mind that characterises the identity of Chance fragrances. “I wanted to give material form to this olfactory universe tinged with freshness and optimism, through the prism of new ingredients, as well as different notes and colours.”
The fruity-floral fragrance is sparkling and captivating. Olivier wanted to construct the scent’s characteristic freshness with an unchartered accord. The raspberry accord gives Chance Eau Splendide “a remarkable opening”, making it the most fruity in the line. The red fruit also creates a vivid impression and gives an immediate feeling of comfort.

The scent’s key ingredient, though, is rose geranium, some of which are produced in the brand’s own fields in Grasse, France

“Floral notes are an integral part of the olfactory identity of Chance fragrances,” Olivier shares. “The use of rose geranium is a facet of this identity, and adds contrast to the fragrance so that it is fruity without being too sweet.
“It adds freshness and elegance to Chance Eau Splendide,” he continues. “This characteristic enabled me to balance the raspberry accord and its rose and violet facets, so that the fragrance is enveloping, yet remains fresh.”

Chance Eau Splendide also has cedar and white musk notes, adding both vibrant woody notes and a sophisticated touch of powdery iris. It’s a scent that’s full of surprises and is both playful and teasing. It’s for the bold woman who dares to seize every chance and who believes that the game is never over.

Picture
After pink, green, yellow and orange, this new incarnation of Chance is packaged in a purple bottle. Each colour is a facet of the scent’s personality and purple was chosen as it conveys the fresh and fruity impression of the raspberry accord, and also expresses the more mysterious and complex floral aspect of the fragrance.

“After completing the formula, we smelt the fragrance,” Olivier explains. “Purple came to mind naturally, almost instinctively. This shade is an element of continuity in the olfactory identity of Chance Eau Splendide, and allows the sensory experience to be prolonged.”
Olivier reveals that the idea of the brand’s fragrances is to bring out an emotion or an individual experience that resonates beyond gender and age. Each person has an intimate relationship with the fragrance they wear and deciding to wear a specific fragrance can depend on the season, moods and personal desires.

“A facet of joy and optimism dominates the Chance line, and Chance Eau Splendide in particular,” he says. “I enjoy being surprised by the people who wear the fragrances I create. I like to see these creations come to life on the street, sometimes in unexpected ways.

Expert Tips To Make Your Hairstyle Last Longer

2/26/2025

Comments

Picture
Imagine sitting for hours getting your hair curled, and the moment you are done, your hair goes back to being wavy, and straight in a few minutes. Sadly, most people with straight hair who try to curl their hair meet the same fate, as hairstyles usually don’t last very long if you don’t know how to make them stay. So, if you want to know how to make your hairstyle linger longer, we are here with the secrets. Read on to know them all!

1. Reduce The Use Of Heating Tools
Styling tools, even with a heat protectant, may dry out your hair, reducing the longevity of your hairstyle. For this reason, natural curls are best achieved with hair rollers or mousse treatments.

2. Don’t Wash Your Hair If You Plan On Curling It
When you wash your hair, you not only remove debris but also the scalp’s natural oils. Curling or waving your locks two or three days before washing them can improve their appearance, and help them last longer without the need for extra styling products.

3. Don’t Overuse The Conditioner
If you have fine hair, using a conditioner may make it seem  heavier and greasy. Instead, apply a small quantity of product to your hair and avoid getting it to the roots. After using a towel to pat your hair dry, you may begin drying and styling it as usual.

4. Blow Cool Air On Your Hair After Drying
If you must use a blow dryer, lower the heat setting to protect your hair. The final step in hairstyling is to blow dry your hair with cool air. This will aid in cuticle closure, extending the life of your hairstyle. Some models of hair dryers provide a convenient setting that simplifies this process.

5. Use Sulphate-Free Shampoo
Use dry shampoo to clean your hair when you expect to sweat a lot, or immediately following a workout, for a hairdo that will stay longer. The oil in your hair may be absorbed and your hair might seem cleaner if you apply it to the roots. Experts also advise using sulfate-free shampoos after keratin straightening. The reason is, traditional products’ chemical and foaming components can undo the shaping, restoring hair to its original shape much more quickly.

6. Sleep With Your Hair Covered
Wrap the hair using a silk scarf before getting in bed. This will keep your hair from becoming dry and will shield it from the effects of friction. A pillowcase constructed from these fabrics is a wonderful option if you don’t like sleeping with your hair bundled.

7. Don’t Touch Your Hair
Even though you may be tempted to mess with your hair after leaving the salon, you should resist the urge. You might ruin your hairdo and introduce frizz by transferring dirt and oil from one section to another

Mastering the art of masacara: Expert shares tips to enhance makeup

1/3/2025

Comments

Picture
Ever wondered how some people seem to have eyes that sparkle and captivate? The secret lies in the art of mascara application. In the world of makeup, certain tools and techniques hold a transformative power, and mascara undoubtedly reigns supreme among them. Mascara, with its ability to accentuate lashes and define eyes, has long been a staple in cosmetic kits worldwide.

Mascara can help you look more confident, powerful and beautiful at the same time, giving you an overall finished makeup look without much to do! In just a few swipes, you can transform your lashes from ordinary to extraordinary, enhancing your entire look.

Tips to apply mascara
  •         The Preliminary Curl:
Before you even touch that mascara wand, consider giving your lashes a gentle curl. A lash curler can work wonders in opening up your eyes and creating a perfect canvas for mascara application.
  •         Choosing the Right Formula:
Mascara formulas are as diverse as the colours in a sunset. For a natural look, opt for a defining mascara. If drama is your game, a volumizing formula will be your partner in crime. Lengthening mascaras are perfect for those seeking luscious, fluttery lashes.
  •         The Technique:
Mastering the technique is key to achieving a flawless finish. Start at the base of your lashes, wiggling the wand slightly to ensure every lash is coated. For extra volume, focus on the roots and build your way up. Don’t forget those outer corner lashes – they are the secret weapon for a wide-eyed effect!
  •         The Power of Layering:
Dare to layer! Applying multiple coats can take your lash game to new heights. Just ensure each coat dries before adding another layer to avoid clumps.
  •         Playing with Colour:
Black is a classic, but don’t be afraid to experiment with colours like brown, navy, or even plum for a playful twist. Coloured mascaras can enhance your eye colour and add an unexpected pop to your overall look.
  •         Precision is Key:
A steady hand is your best friend. Avoid mascara mishaps by using a small brush to clean up any smudges or clumps. Precision is the secret to a polished finish.
  •         Bottom Lash Love:
Don’t neglect your bottom lashes! A subtle touch of mascara on the lower lashes can balance your look and make your eyes truly pop.

he Hermès ‘H24 Herbes Vives’ embodies the harmony between the natural and the man-made. It is fluid, textured, and unapologetically fresh, embodying the contemporary man it’s designed for.

That’s the feeling the Hermès ‘H24 Herbes Vives’ captures with a revitalizing blend of savory herbs like sorrel, hemp, and parsley. There’s a bright, juicy hit of pear granita in there, too, but the real star is Physcool, a clever little molecule that leaves a cool, minty sensation on your skin mimicking a crisp breeze after a storm.

The ‘H24 Herbes Vives’ bottle, designed by Philippe Mouquet, mirrors the fragrance’s theme of nature meeting modernity. Its sleek, aerodynamic silhouette is crafted from green-tinted glass that catches the light like foliage after a rainstorm. The refillable bottle is designed with sustainability in mind. 7 WAYS TO USE YOUR TOUCHE ÉCLAT ILLUMINATING PEN

1. SHARPEN & BRIGHTEN FEATURES
If you have ever wondered how to apply concealer under eyes, apply a small amount in an outwards sweeping motion and blend with a brush or your ring finger to lift dark circles and brighten the wider eye area. To sharpen features, use Touche Eclat Illuminating pen on high points of the face including nose, cheekbones & brow bone and blend for a lifted, brighter complexion.

2. DEFINE YOUR BROWS
Concealer is your brows best friend, concealer can be used as a finishing touch when adding definition to brows. Using a concealer that matches your foundation, you can sharpen the edges of your brows, and if you want them to really stand out, use a lighter shade of concealer around the brows to highlight them.

3. INSTANT EYELINER ERASER
If you’re going for a winged eyeliner look, but you’re worried about precision – don’t be. Here, Alex demonstrates how to use concealer as a great way to fix any eyeliner mistakes. Use Touche Eclat Illuminating pen to tidy up your liner without having to wipe off mistakes and start over.

4. INVISIBLE LIP LINER
Touche Eclat Illuminating Pen can be used to trace around the lip to help define and enhance the sharpness of the lips. Lipstick is the perfect finishing touch to any makeup look but creating a precise finish can be hard, especially if you’re using a bold lip shade. Use your concealer to tidy any lipstick mistakes or accentuate your lip line. Apply to the cupids bow and around the edges of your lips where lipstick can sometimes feather. Thanks to the illuminating formula this concealer will also brighten the lip area, creating the appearance of fuller lips.

5. Use it as eye primer
You can use concealer as a primer before applying eyeshadow. Dabbing a bit of concealer along your upper eyelid will give you a good base for eyeshadow that’s less likely to fade.

6. Use it to contour or as a bronzer
Use a darker concealer as an alternative to cream contour. Go for a cool-toned concealer that’s a couple of shades darker than your skin tone, or use a warmer toned concealer if you want to use it as a bronzer.

7. Mix it
Concealer is versatile, and works great mixed with other products. If you’re low on foundation, create a mixture with a small bit of foundation and a light concealer. Combine concealer and highlighter to hide any puffiness in your face, and you can also mix concealer with a moisturiser to add a bit of tint to a natural, radiant look.

CAVIAR HAIR TREATMENT: REVITALIZE YOUR HAIR!

10/27/2024

Comments

Picture
Caviar hair treatment is a powerhouse of nourishment for hair, primarily due to its high concentration of essential nutrients, antioxidants, and proteins derived from caviar extract. These ingredients make it an excellent option for rejuvenating damaged or weakened hair, particularly in harsh climates.
Here’s a deeper dive into the specific benefits of this luxurious treatment:

DEEP HYDRATION
Caviar extract, rich in omega-3 fatty acids, deeply hydrates dry, brittle hair by restoring lost moisture. This makes it especially beneficial in hot climate, helping hair stay soft, manageable, and healthy.

DAMAGE REPAIR
Caviar hair treatments repair damaged hair by strengthening weakened strands and reducing breakage. The proteins in caviar extract rebuild the hair’s keratin structure, leaving it smoother, shinier, and more resilient.

SCALP HEALTH
Nourishing both hair and scalp, caviar soothes irritation and reduces flakiness. The omega-3 fatty acids and proteins promote scalp health, fostering better hair growth and minimizing issues like dandruff and itchiness.

STRONGER GROWTH
The high protein content in caviar treatment strengthens hair follicles, promoting healthier, thicker hair growth. Over time, it enhances hair volume, improves elasticity, and reduces fragility and breakage.

SHINE AND SMOOTHNESS
Caviar restore hair’s natural shine and smoothness by sealing the cuticle, locking in moisture, and reducing frizz. This is particularly beneficial in environments where heat and humidity cause dryness and frizz, helping to keep hair smooth and glossy.

ANTI-AGING PROPERTIES
Often referred to as an “anti-aging” treatment for hair, caviar extract prevents premature aging by keeping hair nourished and healthy. It combats dryness, dullness, and brittleness, helping maintain youthful, vibrant hair over time.

SUITABLE FOR ALL HAIR TYPES
Caviar hair treatments work for all hair types. Fine hair gains strength and volume without heaviness, while thick hair becomes smoother and more manageable. Curly and textured hair, prone to dryness and frizz, benefits from deep hydration.

The saying Give a woman a red lipstick and she can conquer the world exists for a reason. A red lip exudes mystique and confidence, and never goes out of style. Its symbolism of power, strength, and wealth has made it ubiquitously desirable in the French community tracing back to the 1700s. Throughout the 20th century, French silent film starlets and Hollywood darlings such as Renée Adorée and Elizabeth Taylor frequently adored the cherry red lip, helping boost the popularity of the cosmetic item. Today, the red lip remains synonymous with the classic, chic French girl aesthetic and is one of the most prominent motifs of the bold and glamorous makeup look.
This fall, building upon Celine Haute Parfumerie—the house’s utterly French fragrance collection launched in 2019—the Hedi Slimane–helmed maison will, for the first time in its history, dip into cosmetics. In a bold move, Celine will debut only one product, exclusively pre-launching in Paris and London. It launched at select pop-up Celine boutiques in August.

Formulated in a quintessentially French shade of crimson, that singular item is Rouge Triomphe, a luxurious, long-wearing satin lipstick. Encapsulated in a weighted gold sheath embossed with Celine’s instantly recognizable monogram (Slimane has a knack for making quotidian objets terribly desirable), the first Celine Beauté product promises a blissful experience, inviting the wearer to join the world of effortless French glamour.

Fret not if you do not find yourself in one of the exclusive enclaves fortunate enough to carry the new lipstick first. From mid-October, snap up the maison’s first lip color online at Celine.com. From January of next year, the Le Rouge Celine collection will expand to 15 shades, including a classic nude hue, La Peau Nue. This is only the beginning of the Celine Beauté universe: lip balm and eye makeup will follow, very good news for French beauty aficionados.

Discover Margot Robbie's portrayal of independence in Chanel N°5's See You at 5, directed by Luca Guadagnino

Luxury house Chanel unveiled its latest N°5 campaign, See You at 5, directed by Oscar-winning Luca Guadagnino. The campaign explores themes of femininity, desire, and independence, encapsulating the essence of the iconic fragrance. Starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, the two-minute film presents a modern-day narrative centered around a missed rendezvous between Robbie’s character and Elordi’s, transforming what could have been a moment of regret into a celebration of self-empowerment.
Robbie embodies a woman who is not defined by her relationship to a man, but rather by her ownership of her own life and desires. The subtle humor in the film -the playful exchange of missed texts and paths – serves to underscore her character’s independence and refusal to dwell on what could have been. Instead, she embraces spontaneity, and through her light-hearted response, the viewer is reminded that fulfillment comes from within. The red miniskirt suit Robbie wears, a nod to Chanel’s iconic heritage, adds a layer of boldness, contrasting her carefree demeanor as she glides through the California coastline, symbolic of the woman who makes her own rules.

The allure of the campaign goes beyond its visual appeal. At its core it is a celebration of femininity in its most assertive form. Chanel N°5, the fragrance itself, is an embodiment of autonomy. The subtle message woven throughout the film is that femininity is multifaceted, and N°5 is the olfactory translation of this complexity. Robbie’s character doesn’t seek external validation, nor is she waiting for a predetermined narrative to unfold. She moves through life on her terms, a theme that resonates with the very creation of N°5, originally designed by Gabrielle Chanel to break away from conventional floral perfumes.

Guadagnino’s direction amplifies this narrative by focusing on the nuances of anticipation and self-discovery. Shot on 35mm, every detail – whether it’s the grain of Robbie’s skin or the nervous energy of Elordi’s character – reflects the richness of emotion that lingers between the characters, even when they don’t meet. The film highlights the fact that it is not the moment of union that matters, but the strength found in the individual journey. This delicate dance between desire and self-assuredness mirrors the ethos of N°5, a fragrance that has, for over a century, remained an icon not by following trends but by standing apart from them.

Chanel N°5’s campaign does not focus on the romance of love but on the romance of the self. Robbie’s dive into the ocean towards the end of the film is a metaphorical leap into her own world, free from societal expectations. She isn’t swimming towards a man; she is swimming towards her own essence, towards freedom. The fluidity of the sea, much like the perfume, represents the endless possibilities that lie ahead for those who, like her, are willing to embrace their independence.
At a deeper level, See You at 5 aligns with Gabrielle Chanel’s original vision for the perfume. When Chanel first introduced N°5, it was revolutionary not just for its scent but for what it represented – a break from tradition, a bold statement that a woman could be as complex, daring, and uncontainable as the fragrance she wore. Today, Robbie’s portrayal captures that same spirit of defiance and confidence. As she laughs off the missed connection, it becomes clear that her character’s strength lies in her ability to enjoy the moment without clinging to expectations.

Dermatologists Best Tips For Improving Uneven Skin Texture

8/22/2024

Picture
In a perfect world, we'd all have soft, smooth, poreless, and blemish-free skin. Unfortunately, that's not the case, and rough, uneven skin texture is a lot more common than you might think. “Skin texture and roughness can encompass a wide variety of skin issues such as dryness, rough patches, bumps, enlarged pores, and acne scars to name a few,” says Vanessa Coppola, DNP, FNP-BC, board-certified nurse practitioner and founder of Bare Aesthetic. Think of this as anything that can make your complexion look less smooth or seamless.

Addressing uneven skin texture isn't as easy as concealing roughness with makeup (if anything, makeup might exaggerate it even more), but the good news is there are plenty of ways you can go about improving your skin texture by making simple tweaks to your everyday skincare routine.
Ahead, experts take us through the causes of uneven skin texture and everything you can do to get rid of it.

What Causes Uneven Skin Texture
A number of things, actually. “In its simplest form, rough or textured skin often occurs because of a buildup of dry dead skin cells from the upper and outermost layer of our skin,” Coppola says. Our bodies naturally shed dead skin cells in a process called cell turnover, which involves dead cells being replaced with new ones every 28 to 42 days, keeping the skin looking relatively smooth and healthy. But according to Coppola, cell turnover can be disrupted by several things such as “aging, dryness, sun exposure, pollutants, and lifestyle factors such as smoking.”

Brendan Camp, MD, a double board-certified dermatologist at MDCS Dermatology in New York City, adds that conditions like eczema—which is “associated with red, scaly, itchy patches”—and keratosis pilaris—when dead skin cells accumulate in hair follicles and give your skin a “spiny texture” —could also be culprits, as well as acne scars and enlarged pores.
Lastly, even if you've put a ton of effort into curating a skincare routine that's perfect for your skin type, Coppola notes that it is possible to have "too much of a good thing" if you're using certain products too frequently. "Too much cleaning and too much exfoliation with too many topicals can strip our skin of its natural oils and disrupt the skin’s pH balance and microbiome resulting in inflammatory changes," she says. "This manifests as irritation, redness, uneven texture, enlarged pores, breakouts, and rough patches."

How To Improve Skin Texture
  • Identify the cause: The first thing you should do when targeting any skin issue is to identify what’s causing it in the first place. Board-certified dermatologist Dendy Engelman, MD, says this will help you best determine how to proceed. If you suffer from acne scars, for example, you may want to reach out to a dermatologist who can help you form a plan to get rid of the acne altogether.
  • Exfoliate: It’s a pretty simple fix if your texture issues are being caused by a buildup of dead skin cells. Dr. Engelman recommends exfoliating twice a week with a gentle scrub or a chemical exfoliant. “When using a scrub, just make sure that the exfoliating particles are soft and/or dissolve in order to avoid irritating or harming the skin barrier,” she adds. In terms of chemical exfoliants, Coppola recommends using formulas with alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) like glycolic and lactic acids and beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs) like salicylic. “While AHAs are great for treating overall textural issues and dryness, BHAs are very good for skin texture and rough spots caused by acne or sun damage,” she says. “You want to look for a formulation that has a concentration between 10 to 15 percent, and you want to start low and go slow to determine how well your skin will tolerate the product.” You can also opt for an in-office treatment like dermaplaning, during which a medical professional will use a scalpel to remove dead skin and peach fuzz.
  • Use retinol: Retinol and retinoids speed up the cell turnover process and boost collagen and elastin production, which can ultimately make the skin appear smoother and more firm. “Using a retinol or retinoid can treat and prevent the formation of acne,” says Dr. Camp. “By regulating cell turnover, retinols and retinoids prevent the formation of blocked pores and improve skin texture.” The only catch here is that retinol is known for being slightly drying and irritating to some users, so if you’re afraid that your skin may have a reaction to the ingredient, try using a product with a lower percentage of retinol or spot testing it on a smaller area of the skin before going all in with it. You should also always make sure you’re following any retinol or retinoid with a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, since retinol can also increase your sensitivity to the sun.
  • Use sun protection: Speaking of sun sensitivity: always wear sunscreen! “A broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 30 is necessary to protect the skin against photoaging and help reduce uneven skin texture and roughness caused by sun damage,” Coppola says.
  • Try vitamin C: Dr. Engelman recommends incorporating vitamin C into your everyday skincare routine. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that stimulates collagen production and prevents free radical damage, another known factor that can cause rough or uneven texture. “Skin continuously exposed to UV rays suffers a breakdown and loss of collagen and elastin resulting in uneven texture, enlarged pores, and roughness,” Coppola adds. You can find vitamin C in just about any skincare product from cleanser to moisturizers to serums.
  • Hydrate: If dryness is causing your uneven texture woes, your simplest solution is to keep your skin hydrated by using a serum or moisturizer after every wash. “You want to look for moisturizers that have ingredients like hyaluronic acid, which is a very powerful humectant that draws 1000 times its weight in water into the skin,” Coppola says. “Ingredients like lipid-rich ceramides which act like a glue between skin cells and help hold them together to keep moisture in, resulting in smoother hydrated softer skin.” Dr. Camp also recommends being mindful of the temperature of your shower water—water that's too hot can dry out your skin. “Limiting showers to ten minutes maximum, using lukewarm to warm water, and using mild cleansers can keep skin moisturized by limiting the amount of oil that is removed,” he says.

How To Boost Collagen For A Younger-Looking Skin?

8/22/2024

Picture
As we age, our skin naturally develops fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging due to the decrease in collagen production. The reduction of collagen is primarily responsible for the loss of firmness in our skin, particularly noticeable in the face. While ageing cannot be reversed, there are solutions available to aid in the restoration of collagen in the face, resulting in a youthful and smoother complexion. Dr.  Rinky Kapoor, Consultant Dermatologist, Cosmetic Dermatologist & Dermato-Surgeon, The Esthetic Clinics shares some tips to help your skin look younger and boost collagen production.

Ways to Boost Your Skin’s Collagen Production
  • Facial massage: One effective way to stimulate collagen production is through facial massage. By gently massaging the skin, you can increase blood flow and oxygenation, which can help boost collagen synthesis.
  • Retinols: Incorporating ingredients like vitamin C, retinoids, and peptides into your skincare routine can also promote collagen production. These powerful ingredients work to support the skin’s natural collagen production processes and improve overall skin texture.
  • A healthy diet rich in antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, and protein can promote collagen production from within. Foods like berries, nuts, salmon, and leafy greens are packed with nutrients that support collagen synthesis and protect against oxidative stress that can break down existing collagen.
  • Maintaining a consistent sunscreen routine is essential for preventing UV-induced collagen degradation. Protecting your skin from sun damage is needed for preserving existing collagen and promoting new synthesis.

Utah Company To Invest Millions In Making Cosmetics From Wyoming Coal

4/15/2024

TriSight want to introduce a new skincare line that taps nutrients form coal. The skincare line would be manufactured  in Kemmerer, near the coal mine along U.S.Highway 189. (Courtesy of TriSIght)

Wyoming coal supplies power for millions of Americans, provides thousands of high-paying jobs and ... could be the secret to achieving silky smooth and healthy skin.

That's what a group of investors willing to spend serious money is betting on.

The buzz in southwestern Wyoming is that the next skincare capital of the world could be Kemmerer, a scrappy southwestern Wyoming town known for coal mining and as the birthplace of James Cash Penney’s department store chain from the banks of the Hams Fork River.

Pushing aside big-name skincare makers like Revlon, Unilever or Estée Lauder, the next line to blow up on the skincare scene could be called “Heros,” a serum that purports to have magical qualities to make your skin look smooth and silky.

A disparate group of well-heeled investors out of Utah, Idaho, Florida, Maine and Wyoming with hundreds of millions of investment dollars have bought 136 acres of land and are digging up the landscape near the Naughton coal-fired power plant to pave the way for their skincare line, among other projects to repurpose coal that they have in mind.

The investors are called TriSight AG LLC, a technologies company with a “green” vision for coal that has on its drawing board plans to turn some of the coal dug up at the adjacent mine owned by Kemmerer Operations LLC into a nutrient for skin to smooth out lines or wrinkles.

“In some ways, I guess you could call us ‘green’ and clean coal activists,” said TriSight President Brad Barham.

Coal 2.0
Skincare isn’t the only thing TriSight has on its mind, Barham told Cowboy State Daily.

Other markets include nutrients for agriculture — like for barley — curing pink eye in cattle and regenerating burnt and blackened land left behind by the frequent fast-moving wildfires that have torched forests and grasslands throughout the Western United States.

For sure, coal is at the center of TriSight’s project.

The skin nutrient will be manufactured by taking a lump of coal and turning it into an organic, such as nutrient for cosmetics and body care products, Barham said.

Barham has experience in handling complex business models. He has stitched together a financial career where he’s as comfortable navigating technology firms in the San Francisco Bay area and the Silicon Slopes in Salt Lake City as he is in driving over the rural roads near the Naughton power plant and doing a business deal with politicians in Kemmerer, Diamondville and Lincoln County who are starved to find ways to diversify their energy-dependent economies.

Sandy, Utah-based TriSight is juggling many projects to turn coal into something “green” rather than burning it for power generation.

There’s a long explanation that Barham anxiously delivers on humic and fulvic acids — derived from coal — that can be used in skincare, sunscreen and has been studied for its anti-inflammatory benefits.
There are other benefits of converting coal to humates, which are composed of various forms of carbon that are most often derived from peat and coal.

Farmers can use the nutrients from humates to release nutrients like nitrogen, iron and potassium that are tied-up in the soil. These nutrients are often abundant in the soil, but not usable by plants until a product like humate is applied.

With these business models, Barham can easily become lost in explaining pyrolysis to heat coal at super-high temperatures in phases without burning it.

Wraps Coming Off
Nonetheless, TriSight is beginning to take the wraps off of its secretive work in the area around Naughton.

TriSight is providing a Midas touch to a few lines of business for nutrients designed to rejuvenate agriculture, ranching and skincare.

On the land that it bought from Lincoln County, Barham explained that it began carving up some of property near the Elko entrance to the Kemmerer coal mine last summer, though it halted the work while it replaced one of its financial backers.

The $10 million project is expected to resume this summer, with construction of a 15,000-square-foot carbon advancement center to be completed next year, Barham said.

Over the next few years, there are other projects planned that could see capital expenditures on expansion near the site or elsewhere rise to $45 million to convert carbon dioxide to carbons, and $400 million to $1.2 billion for the pyrolysis process of converting coal to advanced carbon materials, Barham said.

For now, however, the project is beginning with small but opportunistic growth in the skincare, agriculture and ranching sectors.

Cosmetics Just A Start
The owners of technologies in these sectors will pay "toll fees" to TriSight to use its center, with plans for expansion to include warehousing for the skincare products and other handle other research and manufacturing.

Overall, more alternative products for coal will come to the center, with plans for more land to eventually be acquired, Barham said.

The skincare line Heros — without the “e” — is already up and running and getting some funding from a scientific savant investor in the Cody area, he said.

The name of Heros comes from a suggestion by Barham’s wife, Mindy, who formerly worked with British e-commerce retail giant The Hut Group, where she briefly ran a cosmetics line. The home runs in the industry were referred to as “heroes,” though the “e” was dropped and is pronounced “here-os” as part of the company’s marketing and branding style.

TriSight is essentially made up of three technology and financial saavy executives.

Barham, who earned his spurs in the technological world, has founded five companies.

The other two co-founders include Rob Bennett, head of TriSight operations, who has navigated his career in banking circles, and Garry Spencer, head of strategy, who began his career in the field of engineering, operating a submarine nuclear power plant for the U.S. Navy.

Bennett’s father was the late Sen. Bob Bennett, a Utah Republican who was a huge supporter of nuclear energy and oil and gas drilling.

Billionaire’s Row
More than four years ago, TriSight began discussions with Lincoln County commissioners over alternative business models to keep its local coal mine going.

While Kemmerer Operations has a variety of plans underway to keep digging the coal, converting the Naughton coal-fired plant to a natural gas-fueled one worried local politicians and future prospects. The Warren Buffet-backed PacifiCorp owns Naughton.

In recent years, local politicians have focused their attention on the lineup of big energy companies that have committed throwing billions of dollars into building new factories along U.S. Highway 189 south of Kemmerer and Diamondville.

“TriSight didn’t exist prior to our meetings with Lincoln County,” said Barham, who noted that his business actually bought land near Naughton before TerraPower announced its preferred site for the Natrium reactor demonstration project back in November 2021.

The 2.5 million-ton producing coal mine could close down if a new business idea doesn’t catch on, he said.

Preparation for some construction work on non-nuclear aspects of the Natrium reactor project are in the very early stages along the highway. Survey stakes are visible from the road.

The Bill Gates-based TerraPower announced in March that it filed plans to build the reactor with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Its reactor demonstration project could become the prototype for future orders and jumpstart a long-languishing industry.

Other plans are in the works along Hwy. 189 to build a coal-to-ammonia plant, with other projects being discussed, some of which are in confidential stages of discussion, according to officials interviewed with the nearby city of Kemmerer.

The Most Expensive Skincare Products in the World

3/27/2024

Picture
Bougeoir is here to tell you that your ten-step skincare routine is not over the top; in fact, there's always another expensive skincare product to try that promises shocking benefits. Here are a few of the newest and classic cult favorites to try.

While some prefer to keep their routines quick, simple, and affordable, skincare lovers often seek out high-end, luxury skincare lines with eye-opening price tags. And that's not to say that either one is better than the other—the whole point is to stick with whichever works with your preferences and needs. Still, if you're getting sick of being told your ten-step routines are "too elaborate" or "over the top," Bougeoir has rounded up the most expensive skincare products to make you feel otherwise. So, the next time someone criticizes how much you spend on skincare, or even makeup, pull out some of these examples.

Dior L'Or de Vie La Crème - Métiers D'Art Limited Edition: $7,500
Picture

Dior L'Or de Vie La Crème - Métiers D'Art Limited Edition

Though Bougeoir's beauty experts were expecting to find some jaw-dropping price tags, nothing could have prepared us for the cost of Dior's limited edition face cream. It's one of the most expensive moisturizers in the world, if not the most expensive skincare product. How can they justify four figures on a 1.7-ounce moisturizer? Well, for one, there are only 130 of these in the world. But if you're wondering about the key benefits, Dior claims that this eliminates signs of aging, thanks to its Yquem sap.

La Prairie Platinum Rare Haute-Rejuvenation Face Cream: $1,690
Picture

La Prairie Platinum Rare Haute-Rejuvenation Face Cream

While this is a lot cheaper than the Dior L'Or De Vie cream, $1,690 on a moisturizer is still incredibly hefty, even for La Prairie. Among the most expensive skincare products in the world, this La Prairie moisturizer claims to rejuvenate the skin from the deepest layers, but its key selling point is its ability to reduce wrinkles and fine lines through its heavily researched Platinum Multi-Peptide.

Guerlain Orchidee Impreial Black Cream $1500

Guerlain Orchidée Impériale Black Cream

The Cream succeeds in the prowess of conciliating high-efficacy and high-sensorial experience thanks to its fine and generous formula that wraps the skin in a luxurious cocoon of protection. Made with ingredients with different fusion points, it offers a soft balm touch that triggers a cascade of melting sensations upon application. Continuously protected, skin can thus devote all its resources to its regeneration, for skin that is more beautiful and younger-looking, for longer.

Clé de Peau Beauté Synactif Cream: $1,125
Picture

Clé de Peau Beauté Synactif Cream

Similar to the La Prairie and Dior moisturizers, this moisturizer from Clé de Peau Beauté promises to reverse signs of aging. However, it claims to do more than just that. (I mean, if it's one of the most expensive skincare products in the world, it should). The Synactif cream nourishes and repairs the skin barrier, and, thanks to its unique formula that includes retinol, neem leaf extract, and double hyaluronic acid, to name a few, it also helps the skin look more lifted and contoured.

Chanel Sublimage L'extrait De Nuit Ultimate Rejuvenating Night Concentrate $720

Chanel Sublimage L'Extrait De Nuit

Composed of 91% naturally derived ingredients*, its innovative formula rejuvenates the look of the skin and helps to protect its moisture barrier. From the very first morning, the complexion has a rested, radiant appearance. Its formula features a transforming texture and contains millions of micro-droplets, for the perfect balance of freshness and nourishment. It offers a unique sensory experience enriched of all the beneficial fractions of Vanilla Planifolia, combined with Swertia extract.

La Mer The Renewal Oil: $285

La Mer The Renewal Oil

La Mer might have some of the most outrageously expensive skincare products ever, but if there's one thing you should consider purchasing from them, it's their Renewal Oil. Though its price mostly comes with the luxe feel of using a La Mer product, this facial oil literally does it all: it softens lines and wrinkles, and nourishes and protects your skin from environmental stressors. Plus, it helps you achieve a natural glow from within. When you really think about it, $285 on a face oil might break the bank, but sometimes you need to treat yourself.

Body Care Products Are More Popular Than Ever — Here’s Why

3/18/2024

Comments

Picture
Back in 2015, a hilariously perceptive Instagram account called @NightLotion appeared on our feeds, capturing a growing trend. “Women on TV applying lotion before bed,” read the account’s bio. Featuring the common trope, which is often accompanied by an important plot point (such as an argument, a steamy sexual encounter or a mental breakdown — sometimes all three!), these particular scenes involved the show’s female lead applying a copious amount of a nondescript cream to her hands and limbs, often aggressively.

As it turns out, these A-list lotioners were onto something. Almost a decade later, body-care products have become integral parts of our beauty routine. (Thank you, Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, for your contributions.)

In fact, a May 2020 report by McKinsey & Company documents a 65 per cent increase in bath- and body-product sales. By 2027, body lotions are expected to be a nearly $150-billion market — a staggering 50 per cent jump from where the category sits today. And that’s just body lotions; the figure doesn’t include products and treatments that go beyond a washing-and-moisturizing routine. Thanks to serums and masks that tackle specific body skin concerns (like bacne and keratosis pilaris), post-shower routines are becoming more targeted and elaborate.

And why shouldn’t the gold-standard ingredients that are traditionally used on the face for brightening and tightening find their way into body care? “I’m seeing more clients asking to extend their facial treatments down to the décolletage to better address signs of aging below the neck,” says Dr. Amanda Lau, an aesthetic doctor and the medical director at Skinfolio in Vancouver. She explains that popular in-office procedures such as resurfacing lasers, IPL (intense pulsed light) and microneedling can be used on the body to address skin laxity, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation and have become especially popular for areas like the hands, neck and chest. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to more expansive body care. “Ninety per cent of your skin is on your body; it’s short-sighted to only take care of one small part,” says Dr. Mona Gohara, a Connecticut-based dermatologist.

With its affordable price points and easy-to-understand labelling, the Body Proud line focuses on high-performance products, including a vitamin C-enriched oil and a body wash formulated with niacinamide, that target body-care concerns such as skin brightening and smoothing. “We’re seeing consumers asking for more from their body-care products,” says Sarris. “They’re looking for a routine that can be tailored to their specific skin type, concerns and preferences for a personalized experience.”

Retinol is another prime example. One of the most data-backed ingredients available in skincare, it now plays a starring role in body creams and masks, where it’s able to work its smoothing and collagen-boosting magic on crepey-skinned knees and keratosis pilaris-speckled upper arms. Hyperpigmentation and dark spots can be treated with melanocyte-targeting actives like alpha arbutin and kojic acid, while the popular antioxidant vitamin C is another top choice for skin that’s regularly exposed to the sun, such as the hands, neck and chest, to help minimize UV damage. And buzzy niacinamide’s benefits go beyond the face, tackling a host of issues, including dull skin, a weakened skin barrier and inflammation from bacne.

If these ingredients sound familiar, that’s because they are. “Ingredient lists for body-care products should be similar to those for face-care products because you experience similar external factors on all of your skin, including environmental stressors like ultraviolet light,” says Gohara. For example, Dove’s new line of body washes are formulated with hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and collagen.

So, while we eagerly await body care’s next much-deserved starring role on the silver screen, can we make one small suggestion to screenwriters? Ditch the same old no-name cream and swap it for an AHA-packed serum or an antioxidant-rich mask that’s more befitting of the A-list stars we love.

Micellar water for haircare?

Cle de Peau Micellar Cleansing Water

Haircare routines have become a particular focus in the beauty world, with new practices designed to ensure moisturised, shiny, healthy-looking hair. But, in the end, it’s a totally unexpected product that could be the latest must-have in your daily haircare routine: micellar water.

CLEANSE, TONE AND REMOVE MAKEUP IN ONE FELL SWOOP
A staple of beauty routines for many years, micellar water is a versatile product that removes makeup and impurities from facial skin, cleansing it while acting as a toner. Suitable for all skin types, it offers the double advantage of saving time and money, which has enabled it to make a lasting impact in the bathroom. A new, more surprising use is now emerging, designed to rid hair of dirt and impurities without the need for shampoo.

With almost a billion views on TikTok, the hashtag #micellarwater is proof of users’ enthusiasm for this all-in-one product. But in recent weeks, videos tagged with the term have shown users applying the product to their hair, rather than to their skin. One TikTok user sprays her hair with a micellar water solution, claiming that it cleanses her hair and scalp and regulates sebum production.
It’s a trick that hasn’t gone unnoticed, winning over followers looking for tips on how to get rid of greasy hair.

MORE TIME BETWEEN WASHES
The battle against greasy hair began long before the age of social networking. As we’ve all noticed, hair starts to feel greasy two or three days after being washed, or sometimes less for those who suffer from overproduction of sebum or use too much shampoo or conditioner. As a result, we tend to increase the frequency of washes, which in turn increases sebum production, leading to that greasy film returning even more quickly. This phenomenon has given rise to a host of fixes, from baking soda and apple cider vinegar to scalp massage and cold water rinsing.

As for micellar water, while it seems to be a hit on the Chinese social network, it is by no means an innovative solution. In fact, many cosmetics brands have been offering shampoos and hair lotions enriched with micellar water for several years now. The reason is simple: micellar water contains micelles, surfactant molecules that act a bit like magnets for dirt and impurities. They therefore act in the same way on the scalp as they do on the skin.

Incidentally, this is not the first time that users of the Chinese social network have seized on this trick.
Last year, another TikTok user created a buzz by brushing her hair with micellar water, massaging her scalp and then shampooing her hair twice, the post extolled the virtues of using this makeup remover as a hair product, stating that hair was better cleansed and, above all, softer and shinier. A tip that has long since proved its worth, and which continues to find a place in many a beauty routine.

How to Change How You Feel About Your Pores

Although we’re seeing more “real skin” in advertising these days, the overall lack of reality and the use of social-media filters are major factors in the harming of skin confidence everywhere. Dr. Julie Mireault, dermatologist and co-founder of Montreal’s Clinique de Dermatologie Rosemont, finds the increase in the use of these filters unfortunate given how they gloss over natural skin texture and imperfections, altering our perception of reality. “An increasing number of patients are coming to my office and asking me to make their pores disappear—even though pores are totally normal and important as they allow skin to excrete sweat and sebum,” says Mireault.

San Francisco-based certified aesthetician and Benefit Cosmetics global brow and beauty expert Jared Bailey is on the same page. “We’re seeing a lot of the glass-skin trend lately, but it’s really hard to achieve without a filter or unnatural enhancement,” he says. “But that’s not how we want to live our lives, right? We want to feel good in our own skin—literally!” After four years of research, Benefit launched its first collection of six treatments just for pores, adding to its already very popular The POREfessional line of primers and setting sprays. “[We want to] change the way we talk about pores, which is usually negative—calling them ‘clogged’ and ‘yucky’ and [talking about] how we need to erase them,” says Benefit’s global beauty authority Maggie Ford Danielson, who is also Benefit co-founder Jean Ford’s daughter. “That’s not what it’s about. We want to provide solutions instead of problems and give people tools. It’s about clean, healthy skin, but ‘healthy’ doesn’t mean perfect.” For this collection’s campaign images, the brand made the conscious decision to not airbrush the models’ skin.
In reality, our pores are our friends. From head to toe, we have about 5 million—some 20,000 of them just on our face! They can be divided into two main categories: sweat pores, which, via perpiration play a vital role in regulating body temperature and waste removal, and sebaceous pores, which, on top of housing hair follicles (minus a few exceptions like both sets of lips, areolae and eyelids) and allowing you to rid yourself of dead skin cells, are connected to your sebaceous glands and aid in the production of sebum. Although sebum in higher quantities (a.k.a. hyperseborrhea) is no one’s favourite, the substance is an integral component of the precious hydrolipidic film—the layer over your skin that protects it from outside threats like cold, dry weather or sun, and keeps it supple and comfortable.

So how do you distinguish between a healthy pore and one that’s clogged? “Healthy pores lack an accumulation of sebum and keratinocytes,” says Mireault. When you keep your pores free of sebum, debris and dead cells, you can usually avoid pimples and blackheads. To do so, Mireault suggests that younger people—and those who are dealing with acne—use products that contain salicylic acid, which is well known for its keratolytic properties, which break down the outer layers of the skin and get rid of dead skin cells. For more mature skin, she steers people toward either retinoid products—which encourage cellular regeneration and the synthesis of collagen fibre in addition to targeting signs of sun-induced aging—or products that contain alpha-hydroxy acids, like glycolic acid and lactic acid, which have exfoliant properties that dissolve the dead cells that clog pores. “With the right blend of ingredients, you don’t have to torture your pores,” says Ford Danielson. “Your skin deserves your respect.”

So what’s the takeaway? A simple routine that’s tailored to specific needs along with healthy habits will have a much more noticeable effect on skin than any “miracle” product. “I often compare pores to bed sheets,” says Bailey. “When the threads are not tightly woven, sheets have a low thread count and they’re loose, unlike with a higher thread count, which [makes for] much nicer, tighter sheets. It feels different, and you sleep better with the latter, right? So when you consider that pores are what weave your skin together, it’s really important that you take excellent care of them.”

1. Dark Brown Lip Liner: Start by lining your lips with a dark brown lip liner. Focus on the outer corners and the edges of your lips. This will create depth and definition.

2. Light Pink Lip Liner: Next, take a light pink lip liner and apply it to the centre of your lips. This creates a gradient effect, with the centre appearing lighter than the outer edges.

3. Blend: Gently blend the two lip liner shades where they meet to achieve a seamless transition. You can use a lip brush or your fingertip for this step.

1. Correct Mistakes: If you make a mistake while applying lip liner, don’t worry! You can use a small, angled brush dipped in concealer to clean up the edges and perfect your lip shape.

2. Lip Primer: Consider using a lip primer before applying lip liner. It can help the product adhere better and prolong its wear.

3. Lip Brush: For precise application, you can use a lip brush instead of applying the liner directly. This gives you more control and allows for a finer line.
