In response to customer demand, PETA's campaign and e-mails from more than 280,000 concerned shoppers, fur eyelashes is officially banned. The quest to go fur free was first honoured by Sephora, which has more than 2,600 stores across 34 countries, confirmed that it has banned mink-fur eyelashes and will purchase only synthetic or faux-fur lashes going forward and to thank the company, PETA reportedly responded by sending Sephora box of delicious vegan chocolates. Following the news, Bougiee Cosmetics also wiped its website of all mink fur eyelashes. The brand also confirmed the news on its website stating it was in fact due to the campaign by PETA and it will no longer sell real fur eyelashes but only synthetic and faux fur eyelashes going forward as well. According to PETA “There’s no difference between a mink coat and mink eyelashes when it comes to animal suffering. PETA is celebrating Sephora’s decision to join Tarte, Too Faced, Urban Decay and the scores of other brands that know that there’s nothing beautiful about stealing an animal’s fur.” PETA's campaign included a video of a fur farm, where mink fur is often harvested for coats and false eyelashes. As PETA pointed out in its letters to Sephora, mink fur typically comes from fur farms, where stressed minks frantically pace and circle endlessly inside cramped wire cages and many suffer from infections or broken or malformed legs. Some minks even self-mutilate as a result of the intensive confinement, gnawing on their own legs or tails. At the end of their miserable lives, they’re gassed or electrocuted or their necks are broken. Velour lashes is the latest in a long list of brands to ban fur eyelashes.
