Do you ever ponder whether to use a brush or a sponge when doing makeup? Why is there such a fuss about blenders now when there are so many beauty brushes available? How exactly are they different from each other and when should one be used at the time of applying makeup?

Use a brush to apply a product straight from the bottle to your face. Use a sponge to attempt to seamlessly integrate the placed product into the skin. When applying a product to the skin after applying it with a brush, sponges work well.

This is due to the fact that utilising a sponge to pick up a product and apply it to the skin results in significant product waste because sponges absorb the substance and deposit very little of it.

In other words, apply foundation and concealer using a stippling brush where necessary, and then lightly dab a sponge over the face to blend everything together.

The same holds true for blush and highlighter. Use a brush to apply it, but use a sponge to massage it in so that it looks diffused and streak-free. Brushes offer better coverage since their absorption is less and are a good tool for applying foundation or doing their base makeup, according to Dr Aanchal Panth, a dermatologist.

However, the bristles in the brush are brittle which can irritate sensitive or dry skin or the brushes happen to be old and weary.

On the other hand, sponges are much better since they cause less friction and are great for those with sensitive skin. However, they don't absorb much product as compared to brushes. Sponges need to be washed since they are moist after application and become a breeding ground for bacteria. They also take time to dry compared to brushes.

Additionally, make sure to wash the sponges and brushes if you have applied them on acne-prone skin.
