It seems everywhere one look these days almost everyone is claiming to be a makeup artist, almost everyone is giving out makeup tips- even the ones that don't make sense, everyone is giving them out like hot cakes. While being a makeup artist is the current bandwagon everybody is jumping on, which quite frankly- the public, including celebrities just realized that it is makeup artists that do come out with makeup brands and the idea of that, being the main reason why the market is oversaturated these days, which to be honest, its not like they add anything new to the industry, these "others" basically copy makeup artist ideas and try to run with it, this happens in branding all the time when a makeup artist brand starts to do something the other non makeup artist brands usually try to duplicate it or better yet go after makeup artist works and copy it. Lets be honest, before the public and celebrities realized the makeup brand part of the makeup artist career, people usually don't understand what makeup artistry really is except for that person with the makeup kit that works behind the scene. So with this in mind, one can only wonder, with all the youtube videos coming out by the minute and all the filter-filled instagram "makeup artists", where they get the idea of using a darker than your skin tone foundation from and using a lighter concealer underneath your eye to complete the look. Its tips like these that makes one wonder where all of these is taking us which seem to be nowhere! I think any makeup artist will agree that you need to match your foundation to your neck which happen to be the cardinal rule in makeup so wherever that "makeup artist" got that odious idea from, it needs to go back there and stay there! Personally speaking- I feel only real makeup artists- the trained ones should be asked to give makeup tips! Heres another thing to think about- just like anything in life, money and influence can and does manipulate situations, and we wonder, how these non makeup artist brands make there way into store shelves and crowding the space for the real genuine stuff. With all of these in mind, we also wonder, if they knew someone behind the scene behind the push, we've seen this happen time and time again in other sitautions. And the fact that people are mistaken being a makeup artist for having a youtube channel, and instagram page and doing makeup on themselves which is totally far from what being a makeup artist really is! May we just suggest that while you are trying to build your credibility which- only time will tell if you can or not, may we just suggest that you take your time and follow actual trained makeup artists like pat macgrath, pat dubroff, lisa eldrige, charlotte tilbury and bougiee! So on that note, Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Macys, Selfridges, Harrods, Blue Mercury, QVC and all the other stores out there- try to keep the industry as authentic as you can i.e. carrying predominantly makeup artist brands we all know they do it better. You have the power to make a change.
