Frankincense is a resin obtained from trees of the genus Boswellia, particularly Bowellia sacra. Historically, it has been used for various purposes, particularly in religious and cultural rituals.

African cultures have made use of frankincense for generations, mainly for spiritual and religious purposes. In African ceremonies, it is often burned as incense, and the smoke is believed to carry prayers to the heavens.

In various cultures, the smoke of burning frankincense – much like sage and palo santo – is thought to have purifying and cleansing properties, both for the physical environment and the spiritual plane.

Today, natural resin is used for many additional purposes and many believe that it has healing properties that can be used for many an ailment.

Here are some aspects of the purported powers and uses of frankincense:
  • Perfumery: The aromatic properties of frankincense make it a desirable ingredient in perfumery. Some traditional African perfumes and scents may incorporate it in their blends for its distinctive fragrance.
  • Aromatherapy: The scent is often associated with relaxation and stress relief. Aromatherapists use it to create a calming atmosphere and promote a sense of peace and tranquillity.
  • Skincare: Due to its potential anti-ageing properties, Frankincense oil is sometimes used in skincare products. It may help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Here’s how to use frankincense:
  • Aromatherapy: Use a diffuser to disperse the aroma of frankincense oil throughout a room. This can help with relaxation and mood enhancement. We offer aroma therapy of Frankincense and other essential oils that  you can add during your massage therapy session!
  • Topical Application: To use frankincense oil on your skin, dilute it with a carrier oil (such as coconut oil or jojoba oil) to prevent skin irritation. Apply it to the desired area for pain relief, skin benefits, or immune support.
  • Steam Inhalation: Add a few drops of frankincense oil to a bowl of hot water, cover your head with a towel, and inhale the steam to help with respiratory issues.
  • Bath Soak: You can add a few drops of frankincense oil to your bath for a relaxing and skin-nourishing experience.
  • Incense: Traditional frankincense resin can be burned as incense to purify the air and create a pleasant fragrance.

From an anti-inflammatory dilutable tonic to feed your body with the healing properties of frankincense that promises to energise you, to the raw resin that is to be burned, to oils and frankincense-infused perfumes and so much more.
