Clear, radiant skin is something all of us want. However, sometimes it’s not as easy as simply cleansing and moisturizing our skin. The state of our skin is also impacted by the little habits, such as our hygiene routine. Sometimes, the simplest tweaks to your routine can make a world of difference. That’s why we decided to share with you some unexpected hygiene tips that can help you achieve and maintain clear, glowing skin.

CHANGE YOUR PILLOWCASE
This might be an obvious one, however, that doesn’t make it any less important — regularly change your pillowcases! It’s after all the one surface that your skin and hair are in contact with for seven to eight hours every day. Over time, it accumulates oil, sweat, and even traces of skincare and hair care products. When you rest your face on this breeding ground of bacteria night after night, it can lead to breakouts and skin irritation. Make it a habit to change your pillowcase regularly, ideally once a week. Another thing that you can do is to switch to a satin pillow case. This material is not only more gentle on your skin but also less likely to trap bacteria.

CLEAN YOUR PHONE SCREEN
Your smartphone is a constant companion, but it’s also a magnet for germs and bacteria. When you hold your phone against your cheek during calls, you’re transferring these impurities directly to your skin, which can result in clogged pores and acne. Regularly clean your phone screen with a microfiber cloth and a gentle, alcohol-free cleaning solution. Additionally, consider using headphones or a hands-free device to reduce contact between your phone and your skin. Wiping your phone down daily can make a significant difference in your skin’s health.

TOWEL TRANSFORMATION
Don’t underestimate the impact that your towel has on the condition of your skin. The rough texture of standard bath towels can be abrasive to your skin, causing micro-tears and irritation. This can be especially problematic for those with sensitive or acne-prone skin. Upgrade to soft, microfiber towels for your face. They are gentler and less likely to cause friction. Pat your skin dry instead of rubbing, as this minimizes the risk of irritation. Remember, your skin is most vulnerable after cleansing, so be extra gentle during this step of your routine.

ACNE AND HAIR PRODUCTS
Haircare products like conditioner and hair masks can sometimes contain ingredients that are less than friendly to your skin. When these products rinse off, they can leave residue on your skin, potentially leading to breakouts along your back and shoulders, but also hairline and forehead. To prevent this, make sure to wash your face and body after you’ve rinsed out your haircare products. This step will help you get rid of any residual ingredients, and lower the risk of hair care-related breakouts. It’s a simple adjustment to your routine that can have a significant impact on your skin’s condition.

HAND HYGIENE
The skin on your hands and your face is intimately connected. So if you neglect proper hand hygiene, you’re going to transfer germs and bacteria to your face. That’s why washing your hands frequently is crucial, especially before touching your face or applying skincare products. Use a gentle, fragrance-free hand soap to avoid irritating your skin. Remember to wash your hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds. Don’t forget to also clean between your fingers and under your nails. It’s a simple habit that can prevent unwanted breakouts and skin irritations. But also more important things, such as infections.
